Let’s Talk About Memories! Wait… I Forgot.

Do you ever feel like you’re forgetting things more often or know someone that does? Are you having problems doing daily tasks and speaking sometimes?

Dementia is not exactly a disease. It’s a word that that defines a lot of other issues that could be affecting your brain. This is when normal activities and even talking can become hard. It can affect how you think, solve, and even feel emotionally. That doesn’t mean if you forget things you have dementia! Dementia is usually when there are two or more problems with your brain function, which causes memory loss and even language skills.

Why? Is there anything that can help?

Dementia can occur because of a number of reasons. It could be due to specific receptors in our brain that aren’t working. It could be a symptom of another disease for example, Alzheimer’s disease. There are medications that can help with dementia!

Acetylcholinesterase Inhibitors:

  • Donepezil (Aricept)

  • Galantamine (Razadyne)

  • Rivastigmine (Exelon)

  • Tacrine (Cognex)

These drugs help our receptors in our brain not break down what we call acetylcholine. This helps our brain have more acetylcholine available to send messages that allow us to do our daily tasks!

Remember that we do our best to help those with dementia live a normal life as they can. There are many different stages of dementia. The best thing to do is stay aware and be there for support or find support for yourself. You’re not alone!

Get Checked. Get Fit . Get MOVING!
