Do you want to lose weight? Are you sitting in front of the TV more instead of getting a full 8 hours worth of sleep? If so, did you know you lose more weight just by sleeping instead of watching TV! Even though your body may not seem like it is doing much while your sleeping it still burns calories. The average person burns around 56 calories per hour by watching TV compare to about 77 calories while sleeping.
The number of calories depend on Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR).This means, ‘How many calories a person can burn while at rest?’ The older you get, the lower the BMR is. A person can actually burn more calories if your body temperature is cooler because your body is working harder to keep you warm. Now lets not get carried away, and just sleep instead of exercise because if that were the case, everyone would be doing it. Sleeping too little can actually be harmful to your body too. When you do not get the full 8 hours of sleep, you are not burning as many calories as your body requires. It also increases the hormones that increase your appetite, making your body crave high calories foods. So, the next time you want to stay up and watch your favorite show, instead of sleep, think about is it worth your waistline?
