Cheers!

How Many Drinks are too much?

As we all know Carnival is approaching. Alcohol plays a big part in the world of Mardi Gras. So before we go out and some have fun, here some facts. Alcohol is broken down by the liver at a rate of 1 unit of alcohol per hour. So lets say you drink 1 bottle of wine... That is about roughly 10 glasses, which would take about 10 HOURS to break down! Then, that brings the question what constitutes one alcoholic beverage? One serving is: one 12 oz regular beer; or one 5 oz of glass of wine; or one 1.5 oz. shot of hard liquor.

It’s estimated 88,000 people die from alcohol-related causes each year , making this the 3rd preventable cause of death in the United States, followed by tobacco as 1st and poor diet and lack of exercise being 2nd. In 2015, 47% of people with liver disease had alcohol involvement. Maybe this is something to keep in mind when drinking during this Carnival season.

Laissez les bons temps rouler! (..but carefully)

Get Checked. Get Fit. Get MOVING!™
