Pressure, Pressure...Oh Pressure!

According to the American Heart Association, About 85 million adults (approximately 1 in 3) in the United States have high blood pressure. Research shows that high blood pressure is a contributing factor to major health conditions including heart attack, heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, and other health concerns. Research also shows that 45.9% of those with high blood pressure are not controlled, that’s 36.7 million people!

Hypertension is another term for High blood pressure and is a common condition in which the long-term force of the blood against your artery walls is high enough that it may eventually cause health problems- or heart disease. Most people with high blood pressure have no signs or symptoms, even if blood pressure readings reach dangerously high levels. High blood pressure generally develops over many years, and it affects nearly everyone eventually. Fortunately, high blood pressure can be easily detected. And once you know you have high blood pressure, you can work with your doctor to control it. Normal Blood Pressure is 120/80 with Hypertension being defined as 140 over 90 on two separate doctor visits.
